Understanding Anxiety

What anxiety can look like.

During stressful situations, the subconscious mind witnessed us surviving a perceived or real threat and may respond in maladaptive ways.

Any time the brain senses a threat, it will automatically default to the maladaptive behaviors of panic, anxiety, depression, disassociation, anger and the such.

  1. Worry

A feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.

  2. Restlessness

Desire to do something, typically accompanied by unease.

  3. Panic

A nervous disorder characterized by a state of excessive uneasiness and apprehension, typically with compulsive behavior or panic attacks.

How I Work

How I treat anxiety.

  1. Mindfulness

At ShadeTree Counseling, I use mindfulness and other treatment techniques to help the client practice awareness of details in the environment, awareness of thoughts, awareness of the dynamics in relationships, and the awareness of inner body sensations.

  2. The brain can change

The good news is that our brain can change and learn new ways no matter our age; this is called neuroplasticity.

  3. Regulating emotions

A way to do this is through awareness, the practice of mindfulness, challenging our thoughts, processing past trauma, learning how to regulate our emotions and reactions to our inner body.

  4. Mind and body

I help you understand the mind/body connection that influence mental health through Mindfulness, Neuro Linguistic Programing, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, EMDR, etc. with the goal of neutralizing negative thoughts/emotions or a traumatic past.
